Poppy Chicken Makhani Without Water

Do you want to get a taste of Poppy Chicken Makhani at your home rather than restaurant?


  • Fresh chicken (boneless / with bones): 1 Kg.
  • Onion: 3 pieces
  • Ginger paste: 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic paste: 1 teaspoon
  • Green & red chili: 4 – 5 pieces
  • Green chili paste: 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Yogurt: 2 tablespoon
  • Poppy paste: 2 tablespoon
  • Cashew paste: 2 tablespoon
  • Garam masala paste: 2 teaspoon
  • Ghee: 2 teaspoon
  • Bay leaves: 2 pieces
  • Salt: According to the taste
  • Vegetable oil: 4 tablespoon



  1. Clean the chicken pieces properly in plain and cold water
  2. Take the onions and cut them each into 4 – 6 pieces
  3. Roast the onions in a pan without oil
  4. Take out the onions from the pan after few minutes and make a paste of the roasted onion
  5. Mix ginger-garlic paste, onion paste, yogurt and green chili paste with the chicken
  6. Leave the mixture for 30 – 45 minutes for marination
  7. Heat a kadai in the oven and then pour the vegetable oil into it
  8. Let the oil heat for a few minutes and add two bay leaves
  9. Add the marinated mixture and green & red chili into the kadai and stir it properly in high flame so that it gets dry
  10. Mix poppy seed paste, cashew nut paste and salt and then stir it properly for 5 minutes
  11. Mix garam masala paste and ghee and stir it for another 1 – 2 minutes
  12. Serve the Poppy Chicken Makhani with parathas or fried rice or polao
